Best selling author, Jeff Kinney, grew up wanting to become a newspaper cartoonist. While that dream did not become a reality, he did create one of the most popular children’s book series to inspire young readers to lose themselves in a story! Kinney came up with the idea for Diary of a Wimpy Kid in 1998 and worked on developing the story and main character Greg for 6 years before publishing it online. To date, the online version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid has more than 80 million visits, and is typically read by more than 70,000 kids a day! The first Diary of a Wimpy Kid book was published in print in 2007.
Kinney has continued to delight young readers with many stories featuring Greg, a middle school aged boy. In fact, my son is one of his biggest fans. He loves this series and is currently collecting all of the books. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School is the 10th book in the ever so popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. My son has a signed copy of this book and it is one of his most prized possessions. He has read this book 3 times in that past two months. He loves the detail in this book and absolutely loves the humor. In Old School, Greg and his family go electronic free. Greg’s mom encourages everyone in their town to unplug from modern conveniences and get to know one another. Even the clocks are unplugged in Greg’s house!
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is thought-provoking and fun. My 7-year-old literally laughs out loud when reading these books. When my son was reading Old School, he could not put it down. The story had his complete attention. He laughed out loud and when he would finally put the book down, he always had something to discuss with me. His love of these books has helped make reading a hobby he looks forward to enjoying daily. It even inspired a 7-year-old boy to leave this note on his stocking for St. Nick to find!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School is available for purchase online as well as in stores.
