November’s Pick: Sometimes it’s Turkey, Sometimes it’s Feathers Review & Giveaway

If there is one holiday I struggle with in finding excellent children’s books, it would have to be Thanksgiving.  I have spent years reading children’s books and this holiday seems to have a very limited selection of books and many of them are simply not that good.  Therefore, I am quite excited to share this month’s pick, Sometimes it’s Turkey, Sometimes it’s Feathers, with all of you because this delightful story is perfect for Thanksgiving!  Sometimes it’s Turkey, Sometimes it’s Feathers is truly a treasure.  I may just be more excited to find this book than Mrs. Gumm was when she found her turkey egg!  If you have not had the pleasure of reading Sometimes it’s Turkey, Sometimes it’s Feathers yet, Mrs. Gumm is the sweet old lady in this story.  Lorna and Lecia Balian did a fabulous job with this book.  The writing style is engaging and fun to read.  Every time the turkey eats more and Mrs. Gumm says, “Oh! What a fine Thanksgiving dinner we’ll have!”  I can’t help but smile.

Sometimes it’s Turkey, Sometimes it’s Feathers begins with Mrs. Gumm finding a turkey egg one spring day.  She takes her treasure (AKA the egg) home to help it hatch.  My 4 year old son was completely captivated by this story from the very first page and as soon as the egg was described as treasure he was in love!  This delightftul story takes you and your child through each month leading up to Thanksgiving.  You get to see the turkey grow and how much it eats.  I don’t want to spoil the story but the ending is quite adorable!
